Project.
American Councils for International Education is a premier, international nonprofit organisation creating educational opportunities that prepare individuals and institutions to succeed in an increasingly interconnected world. American Councils designs and administers innovative programs that broaden individual perspectives, increase knowledge, and deepen understanding.
For 40 years American Councils has responded to the needs of the communities where they work with hundreds international education programs that span over 70 countries.
FLEX – is a programmer of future leaders exchange developed by American Councils. It is used for the students of secondary schools of ten countries of the former USSR, which is financed by the government of the USA. Due to this programmer foreign students get scholarship, get to the USA and around the country, study at American schools for a year and live in an American families.
FLEX was founded in 1992 with the help of senator Bill Breadly who was sure that the best way to get long peace between the USA and countries of Eurasia was to give youth the possibility to learn America and Americans. When students return back they make their best to improve life in their own countries.
The integral part of the programmer is living in the American families. For these families participating in the programmer is voluntary and nonprofit. To choose a family and to choose a student is rather difficult task. FLEX is responsible for choosing a family and a school for student.
It is interesting to know:
1. Two from five families aare from the Middle West
2. One third of the families are in Michigan, Texas, Wisconsin and Washington
3. The families from the middle class
4. The family mainly lives in the country or in the suburbs
5. Many of the families attend churches every week
6. Students must follow the rulers of the family
7. The students are considered to be the members of the family, but not the guests, so they are to fulfil certain household items
8. Future Leaders Express is a newspaper published for the students of the project
The students life in the USA is very interesting. Each year the students of the FLEX programmer become the part of communities of many American towns. Each month “The best student ” is elected to show the results of the project.
FLEX is helping to build a world of globally competent citizens, successful institutions, and responsible nations.
